Black Bank Challenge: CO Federal Credit Union Hosts Meet & Greet – The Charleston Chronicle

The CO Federal Credit Union has been in existence for 50 years in Charleston and still is unbeknownst to some fellow Charlestonians. The Bank Black Challenge is not only a clarion call urging African Americans to bank with the Credit Union, it’s also to introduce to some and reintroduce to others its actuality.

The Credit Union serves as a pillar for the community and it is my desire along with others to inundate the City of Charleston of the Credit union and the services it renders. What started as a social media challenge encouraging blacks to bank with the credit union, grew into a movement. We then reached out to the Chairman of the Credit Union Robert Smalls to establish a meet and greet. This was just the first “Meet & Greet”, but certainly won’t be the last. We have reached out to local pastors to host it at their churches in the upcoming months.

Bill Jenkins (Founder’s son) was in attendance and shared the history behind the credit union and his father’s desire to empower blacks for the future. It is our desire to preserve his legacy to employ and empower blacks in creating for our own and acquiring economic strength.
